Zac

Zac is a  25-year-old Dutch Warmblood-Andalusian cross whose competitive jumping career came to an end when severe arthritis developed in his hip joint. For many years, this talented athlete soared over jumps at competitions across Texas.

Despite his impressive stature and athletic history, Zac possesses a remarkably gentle soul. He’s as kind-hearted as they come—a gentle giant who has discovered that being a “lap horse” and receiving endless affection suits him perfectly. His transition from competitive athlete to therapy horse at HorseLink has been nothing short of remarkable.

In his new role, Zac has found his true calling. His enormous heart and willingness to connect with others make him an exceptional therapy partner. He embodies the beautiful balance of strength and gentleness, showing everyone he meets what it means to be powerful yet soft, commanding yet kind.

While arthritis has left him with a slight limp, Zac’s spirit remains undiminished. He approaches each day with the same happy-go-lucky attitude that made him special in the arena, now channeling that joy into meaningful connections with people. When he’s not working, you’ll find him contentedly sharing pasture space with his companion Patsy, living proof that retirement can be just as fulfilling as any championship.
